Yes, we have idiots who come in from out of town (oddly, most of the public cases have been Sikhs from Surrey - who should know a thing or two about bigotry) who drive around the West End and gay-bash, but for the most part, people are not disappearing and being tortured and killed. We live in a bubble in most major metropolitan cities in the Western world. Oddly, Iraq under Hussein was apparently quite a gay hotspot, so there's not always a correlation of West/good and non-West/bad. Not by a long shot. As am I.
