Hey Greg. Glad you're enjoying the Kindle. The PDF rendering is okay if the font is large enough. But for smaller font documents, it's pretty painful. And for PPT decks it's horrible. Because if you turn it into landscape mode, it doesn't shrink the PPT slide onto one page and display it, it splits it top and then bottom with the page up/down keys. It makes it useless for skimming slide decks. Which brings me to your point about skimming. It's great for reading thoroughly and horrible for rapid flipping/skimming/seeking of headings. So I think it depends on your reading style. I'm reading MUCH faster by using the Kindle for Mac app on a tall 24" display rotated to 90 degrees ( so it's tall like a Kindle in regular straight up mode) and then using small fonts and hitting the arrow keys to move to the next page. I can skim faster and the computer can turn the page and render the new page much faster than the Kindle.

In any case, glad you're enjoying it!

Just got the Kindle DX. I don't know, I'm digging it so far.
Have to disagree about 2 things:

1)I think it handles PDF's well. Have a couple of machine-learning textbooks as PDF's and the rendering seems perfect to me.

2)Page turning 3-5 seconds, really? It takes 1-2 seconds on mine.

Also, I really like the 3G delivery of newspapers and books. It's just a lot less painless than trying to manually configure wifi where ever you are. The Eink display is much better (for me) to read all kinds in many different kinds of lighting conditions.

The Kindle really fulfills a useful function for those people who really like reading in-depth articles/textbooks/books on a regular basis. If you are more of a skimming kind of person, it might not be for you.
