Troy Angrignon’s Bio
I am a socially and environmentally business builder, advisor, athlete, adventurer, blogger, and speaker. My purpose in life is to use the power of business and technology to create new ventures that contribute to the development of a more sustainable, more open, and healthier life, community, society, and world.
I’m currently an independent management consultant. I advise the founding and executive teams of startups and established clients on business management and technology practice areas. Functionally, I focus on overall business creation with a specialization in sales, business development, partnering, and marketing. Market sectors I’m deeply familiar with include Cleantech and IT.
In the cleantech space, I currently advise a number of startups including: Lions Gate Contracting, CO2Impact, and Visible Strategies. I’m also the founder of CleantechBC – a site dedicated to helping foster community in the cleantech sector here in BC.
In the cloud computing space, I have had the good fortune of working with clients such as RightScale and Appirio. I also co-chaired Vancouver’s first Cloud Camp and guest co-chaired Dealmaker Media’s 2009 Under the Radar: Clarity in the cloud event. With Appirio’s gracious sponsorship, I released the third version of the cloud computing ecosystem map at www.appirio.com/ecosystem.
Previously, I was Co-owner and President/VP Sales and Marketing of WorkHabit, a web application development shop focused on building online communities and private label social networks on the Drupal and Jive platforms.
Prior to that, I was the Director of Strategy for Hinchcliffe and Company, a leading Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 consulting, training, advisory, and media company. In this role, I work with our team of associates to provide Enterprise 2.0 consulting to the Fortune 1000, delivering training and providing advisory services to startups.
Before joining Hinchcliffe and Company, I was the Emerging Technology Strategist for Business Objects, where I was tasked with identifying new growth opportunities, markets, offerings, and business models that arose from emerging technologies. This included having the opportunity to support the launch of our Software as a Service unit, and also working on our online community, social software initiatives (blogs and wikis), and product-centric Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 strategy. Prior to that position, I was an Inside Sales Account Manager, servicing the oil & gas sector.
My writings, partnering deals, and market maps (such as the Cloud Computing Ecosystem Map) have been documented on my blogs Adventure Capitalist (www.troyangrignon.com) and CleantechBC (cleantechbc.com) and have also garnered press in Sandhill.com, eWeek, Information Week, Info World, VentureBeat, ReadWriteWeb, Cutter IT journal, ChangeThis.com, Deal Architect, and many other technology industry sites.
Recent volunteering includes facilitating at Angel Forum, hosting the CloudCamp, working for the BC Innovation Council, and hosting the Startup Lessons Learned Simulcast in Vancouver. Prior volunteer positions include being a member of the granting committe of Business Objects foundation, technology advisor for 30 days of sustainability, and volunteer for the Vancouver Enterprise Forum, Canadian Financing Forum, and Rocketbuilders Market Readiness Program.
I attended and graduated from the Leadership Vancouver class of 2004, a program I have recommended to many others for its breadth and for the opportunity to meet and work with some of Vancouver’s most dynamic leaders in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
From 1994-2004, I owned a computer consulting company that specialized in providing management consulting services to businesses and non-profit organizations.
In order to maintain my energy, I spend as much time as I can staying fit with CrossFit, CrossFit Endurance, biking, running, swimming, triathlons, snowshoe-running, yoga, and anything else I can find that is intense and provides lots of variety.
I live in Squamish BC – outdoor recreation capital of Canada.
