Craig Venter's new new thing: Sequencing entire eco-systems

I love Craig Venter for his long view, his burning curiousity, and his adventurous spirit. And probably because he pisses so many people off in the scientific community for being a dilletante. And yet, he has done more for the development of the various *omics (genomics, proteomics) than almost all others to date. This article discusses his current adventure: circumnavigating the world and capturing volumes of sea-water and then sequencing ALL of the genetic material in it at once. His expectation is that he will find 10-20 million new genes in upwards of 100,000 new species.
